I was pushed to “be a writer” for as long as I can remember. At least one close relative still identifies me to others as “a writer,” despite my never having earned a living or identified myself that way.
I enjoy writing, but not as much as I enjoy beekeeping or watching sumo. Writing isn't a major focus for me currently, but I may do more in future.
I only submit my work to paying publications (which are ever fewer). If I can't find a buyer, or if a publication shuts down or a print edition is no longer easily available, but at least one person said they liked the work and it didn't seem they were just being polite, I'll publish it here. I also use this site for anything else that occurs to me.
My surname is Brown. Del Col is my maiden name, and comes from the Friuli–Venezia Giulia region of Italy. My pronouns are she/her.
I grew up in West Virginia, but have lived in northwest London since 2000. I became a British citizen in 2009 and renounced U.S. citizenship in 2023.
New for 2026, a series of short essays very loosely based on Japanese kanji.
Yes, I'm the one you heard about on Mumsnet. I'll tell the full story one day, but for now, here's a link to my FoI requests.
